Samuele CYMA creates introspective, delicate and suspended music on the border between abstract electronic music and experimental songwriting.
Cyma makes experimentation his trademark. With a broad background in musical culture ranging from contemporary jazz to choral music and a detailed attention to sound design, Samuele's poetics is to constantly research and package interesting, out-of-the-box sounds in a fluidity of musical genres.
Born in Rome in 1997. His main influences derive from his Post Rock and Ambient formation, from the important experiences he had in the world of choral music, especially in the Baltic and Scandinavian countries, and from the in-depth study of the boundaries between Northern European jazz and contemporary experimental music.

Lacrimae

[DCRN 005]

"Lacrimae was born from a series of improvisations using vocal and choral samples, which were heavily processed and manipulated.

The central image behind the concept is that of the first track: “fossilized” tears, like ancient pain petrified over time—coagulated blood on your cheeks.

"Afrodisia" continues this theme of ancient ruin, with a rather hermetic text evoking the image of something lost in time, fossilized, whose true meaning has been lost in translation. At the same time, the title references dacryphilia, a paraphilia in which sexual arousal is derived from seeing someone cry.

The track opens with stretched choral samples forming a dense cluster of voices, over which various synthetic sequences of electronic percussion and modular arpeggios enter, layered with wide, open-textured stereo fields. On top of this, the album’s only true vocal lead emerges—a long, slow, and expansive melodic line. In the second half of the track, the rhythm intensifies with an almost club-like drum pattern. The voice fractures, and the pitch is modulated within the sequences. Eventually, everything dissolves again into a spacious finale with multiple choral samples slowed down and drenched in heavy reverb."
